Ann Curry

Ann Curry is a photojournalist as well as a journalist, author and has covered war zones for the past forty-five years. Her work focuses on human suffering and disasters. Curry was a reporter for wars from Kosovo, Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo. Curry was known especially for her reporting about natural disasters as well as war devastated countries. Curry's mother was Japanese American and her U.S. Navy-sailor dad both played a prominent role within Curry's personal life. Curry's parents bonded in Japan which is where her father had been stationed after World War II. Due to the military service of her father, the family has moved around quite a bit. Curry went to High School in Ashland Oregon. She graduated with a journalism degree at the University of Oregon in 1978. In her youth she was exposed many different cultures. The couple moved to various places like San Diego Alameda Oregon Virginia. She finally graduated from Ashland the high school. As an intern at KTVL Channel 10 Medford, Oregon, she started her career as a broadcaster. She was the first female news reporter at the station, when she was just 22. Then, she was an anchor/reporter at KGW in Portland Oregon. In the course of four years, she was hired as an anchor by KCBS TV in Los Angeles. It was during her time with this channel for 6 years that she was awarded two Emmy Awards.
